Korean blood type personality

If you have ever visited Korea or stayed in Korea for quite some time, you have probably noticed that a lot of Korean people ask “what is your blood type?”. This question is one of the most common questions that Korean people ask, apart from “How old are you?”. In Korea, it is perfectly fine to ask about a person’s blood type, especially if you want to get to know someone very well instantly, in particular, on a blind date. The reason is that Korean people believe that each blood type has its own distinct personality and it is the quickest way to determine a person’s temperament and even compatibility with others. You may feel confused as to why people ask about blood types in Korea, but don’t worry. If you are asked this by a Korean, that means that the person wants to get to know you better. In other words, it’s a way to grasp a general understanding of what someone’s personality might be like. Though, of course, it’s more for fun rather than something super serious and scientifically proven.

Why do Koreans believe that blood type can determine a person’s personality?

Why do Koreans believe that blood type can determine a person’s personality?

Associating one’s blood type with a person’s personality has been a part of Korean culture for around a century now. The Western world looks at different horoscopes to examine blood type compatibility with each other. But in Korea, they may deem someone’s likability or potential as a romantic partner based on their blood type. Koreans even believe that a specific blood type can give important information on someone’s health status.

How the Blood Type Personality Theory began

How the Blood Type Personality Theory began

The history of how one’s blood type can determine personality, health status, and more is quite bleak. It was initially incepted by Nazi Germany, where studies were conducted by analyzing blood type distribution. From here, a Japanese scholar picked up the framing and developed the theory of a link between personality and blood type.

It caught wind in Japan, although not so much within actual medical circles. From there, it spread to other countries in Asia, notably South Korea and Taiwan.

In South Korea, the idea of blood type determining your personality theory was popular in the early 2000s. During this time, it became mainstream to feature these theories in TV programs and films and even in many pop songs.

1. Blood Type A

According to the Korean blood type personality chart, people of blood type A are diplomatic and friendly. But, due to their sensitive natures, these people prefer being alone than in a group.

Chances are they may feel uncomfortable at parties or in crowded places. They easily get hurt and are fragile at heart, so naturally it takes time for them to open up to new people.

Sadly, others might think of them as snobs considering the fact that people with blood type A are more reserved and fancy keeping to themselves.

2. Blood Type B

People of blood type B are said to be the most outgoing in comparison to the other blood types. They are independent and passionate, especially when it’s something/someone that they’re interested in.

These people are not afraid to speak their minds, therefore they are often seen as self-centered because they are highly opinionated and not afraid to express themselves; regardless of what others may feel.

Surprise! In Korea, men with blood type B are famous for being playboys and for not being suitable for a stable, committed relationship.

But of course, the about statement is not true lol. Again, it’s all just plain assumptions!

3. Blood Type O

These people are known to be energetic, friendly and practical. Blood type O is usually labeled as a natural leader. Wow, bet you didn’t know that xD

Unlike blood type A who speaks whatever is on their mind without filter, those of blood type O express their opinions in a more constructive way and they know how to handle their emotions well.

This gives others a great impression of their capability of being stable and under control. However, they are really sensitive on the inside though having a strong demeanour.

People with blood type O are not so great at expressing their feelings very well due to the fear of rejection. That, and they also have the dire to get things done perfectly.

4. Blood Type AB

They are the most interesting type compared to the others because this blood type is labeled as either genius or psycho. They are unpredictable because they often jump around from one activity to the next and their temperament is mixture of blood type A and B, therefore their personalities change quickly depending on their mood and the situation, and sometimes they don’t have control over it. Also type ABs are rational thinkers, therefore they cannot stand it when they find some situations to be irrational. As a result, they may have some difficulties interacting with people, giving others the wrong impression of being moody or two-faced.

Stemming from a belief that your blood type is linked to your temperament and character traits, this concept has gained massive popularity in South Korea and beyond.

In fact, it’s become so influential that it affects various aspects of people’s lives, from dating preferences to job applications to even dietary recommendations.
